Large Flock of Parrots~Brownsville, TX

a flock of 160 red-crowned green parrots patrols brownsville, feasting on palm dates, berries, citrus.

my son lives in an old house there and says the birds wake him up frequently.

the new york times ran an article this morning.

That's awesome! I have two parrots and I love to read about/watch wild parrots. There's a flock in Austin, also, of different kinds of parrots that hang out near the river. It's really cool! There's a documentary called "The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill" about parrots that have been wild in San Francisco for awhile and about the man that takes care of them. There's also a wild flock of parrots in North Carlolina, Quaker parrots. They are considered a pest down there. They didn't use to be there, but they've taken up residence and created quite a stir. Whenever I watch the video, my parrots go into culture shock... HAHAHAH! Glad to see that someone else loves birds as much as I do!

Well...

I have a really LARGE family, and I spend about $35-50 on each person, normally. This year, I decided that it would be a little less in the $ department and more in the home made department, so I decided to make jalapeno jelly for everyone as an adjuntant gift. I spent three hours on Sunday chopping up the jalapenos, taking the seeds out with my fingers, and making the jelly. About Sunday afternoon, my hands started burning like they hand just been in a house fire. The palms, fingertips, and between the fingers were on fire. I spent two days (til this morning) with ice packs on my hands. My husband looked up on the Internet how to get rid of the burning. Some of the remedies: Chlorox, olive oil, rubbing your hands through you hair, etc. I tried them all. None worked. Just this morning the burning stopped, except one little finger tip.

NEVER chop 3 lbs of jalapenos with ungloved hands. No wonder law enforcement uses pepper spray!

or is it just me?...ya...it was wicked hard to deal with and i will never be the same...we had two cute kids at the time, very young, and she was out knocking on doors with a 35 hour a month average....i was never spiritual enough and hated service....and felt there were too many meetings......she truly just disappeared one day...no note...i found her thousands of miles away, not even in the us....ya how is that for weird?.....can anybody top that?....i lost 20 pounds the first month and was already skinny.....i still care for her greatly, and know she was truly mentally ill at the time......cause you would have to be crazy to leave a guy like me!!!

!.....lol.....that line has gotten me through a lot of tough times....she really was ill and on tons of meds.......oompa....this one should be on oprah.

again.....can anybody top that?....step up to the plate....i could not find anyone to help me with that, as nobody had had that happen to them.

It reminded me of a story of abrother we had in our congregation that was born blind and he met and married a really lovely girl. They had a couple three kids. He had a regular paper delivery job, and his wife, before the kids, would count off footsteps with him from one apartment door to the next where the papers had to be delivered. It looked to be very hard! But he did it for years, and his dedication to that job helped him raise that family with minimal problems. One time he did fall in the pool, and he got a big charge outta that!

recently, with my dad and two of my closest friends, i stumbled upon an interesting situation....they all know where i stand and what the issues were that became a wt dealbreaker for me...but all three of them have recently (and in the past) expressed opinions that go directly against fds teachings...not doubts....they just do not agree with something taught.

but two of them have actually put a mental block on a wt teaching they do not agree with, but what is funny is they both told me "i don't think we have ever been taught that so directly" (by the slave)....both times i was stunned!....these two teachings are huge wt dogma and taught very often....but because it conflicted with what they actually believe....they thought it must no be a real wt teaching.. 1. the first one was my dad...i told him i was mad at god and wt....he asked why...so i said well it could be this frikkin reading glasses i cant get used to, or my bad knee thats aching, and my back sometimes goes out!....and i was told all my life that for sure i did not need a college degree or great job cause i would never grow old or die and the end was just a few short years away!!

!.....so then he said the above quote...and i was like "what about the talk and books "million now living will never die"....so he says that is not as specific as to what my gripe was.....so i do my research and send him an email with two dozen quotes...my fave is the may 22,1969 awake that said youths "you better face this fact..you will never finish a carreer in this system...you dont need college....cause you will never grow old or die....the end is few short years away.

Sexless marriages

i've heard of a fair few sexless marriages in the borg, probably something to do with the fact that if you're raised "in" you'll have a pretty skewed view of sex by the time you finally get to do it.

so if someone is trapped in a sexless marriage, from a jw standpoint they could get an unscriptural divorce...but...that doesn't leave them free to remarry??!

seems pretty sadistic really.

Bless you! You and your wife have encompassed what unconditional love is about: love without condition. That is what Jesus told us about, and it should be embraced by all. You have also shown what our vows mean: through sickness and health. I believe we can be blessed by abiding by these vows. Faith and belief.

Sex is a wonderful and valuable part of a relationship, but it's not everything. Sometimes people like to be with each other simply because they are best friends. Sex can be a part of it, but not always. Sometimes there have been relationships of NO SEX when both parties are homosexual, but the parties are so close to each other that their relationship is primary and they don't want to lose it, so they curtail sexual encounters. People are so different, that not all combinations fit into a mold. people just do what they want to do.

i thought long and hard before making this thread, that many will not agree with it but i think there needs to be balance and people to realise there are alternate viewpoints out there on many of these subjects, the ones that are most spoke about on this forum.

i was recently sent a full message containing mary's book and these links give the rebuttal to many of her points.

those that are still open-minded enough feel free to look over them even if in the end you still don't agree at least you have heard both the defence as well as the attack as they are on the internet.

There's no defense. It's all very very simple. When you say that you are a sinner, and you ask Jesus to forvive you, you are given his grace. That's it. You are forgiven and you have not sinned. It's by grace we were given and it was grace we were saved. Stop making it all so complicated. It's really simple. You were born in sin. You are by grace, saved. God makes it very simple for very simple people, or people who are really complicated that can't see it simple. By grace you are saved.

Renaii is just here to incite us. And well she should. That is her "job." We're falling for it. People get so incensed about it, and then we're doing exactly what they want us to do. We are getting upset about it. Really. It's people's choice if they want to be JW's or not. we can't control that. People have a choice. Just let people do what they want to do. Life is WAY TOO SHORT to be worying about other people's beliefs. Just do what you want to do, and make YOURSELF happy, and do what you do so you and let people do what they want to do. Just realize that you can't control the world... Just realize that you can only control how you feel.

i see no reason why any organised religion should be exempt from paying their due taxes.

To me, it's fairly simple.

If they wanted same sex marriage, they would have voted it in. But they didn't. Get over it. It could change in a few years. The vote was so close that it most likely WILL change. Most likely won't be long. The fact is: this was a vote for the popular, and it just wasn't popular. I say, let the people determine what is best for their state. They vote it in

I agree with you, WH?

There is always an agenda. However, because this country believes in freedom of the press, freedom of religion, and freedom of choice: people vote how they WANT TO. Ultimately, the decision is up to that person standing in that voter booth.

If we start finding invididual groups responsible for voter choices, then we are ultimately defeating the purpose of our Constitution. It isn't like it was back in the Jim Crow days when you had to pay a tax to vote. Persons are free to vote now, without paying a tax, or being denied their right to vote. People fail to realize that the more we RESTRICT voting, the less people will want to vote, and the MORE our freedoms will be restricted. All this outrage is actually making our votes worth less.

The poeple in California voted strongly for prop 8. That's how they feel right now. Maybe in another twenty years, they'll feel different. It's not the government's choice, it's the people of California's choice. The people of California made that choice, not the government. Stop blaming our government, and put the blame where it belongs.

That's why churches, non-profits groups, have the right to lobby. They chose to do this. That's how they feel. As far as I remember, California is a DEMOCRACY, and the major vote wins.
